About the lecturer:  

Daniel Kelley-Petersen, MAEd, LMHC, LPC, NCC is a licensed mental health counselor in WA state and licensed professional counselor in the states of Arizona & Oregon. Dan owns and operates a private practice in Seattle, WA that began in 2015. Dan offers clinical supervision in Gestalt Therapy in both Oregon and Washington as well as Poland and Lithuania. He is passionate about learning and practicing Gestalt Therapy and exploring the intersection of Gestalt and Career Counseling. Dan expresses his passion through teaching as affiliate faculty at Seattle University in the Department of Counseling, offering and facilitating workshops and seminars on Gestalt Therapy in the PNW region as well as internationally. Dan enjoys working with adults, couples, and groups through a social justice lens, taking a non-pathologizing and anti-oppression stance. Dan identifies as white, cisgender, straight, and an ally. Dan is a Certified Gestalt Therapist and Faculty with the Gestalt Associates Training Seattle (GATSEA) Program.

Workshop description:

This two-day experiential workshop introduces psychotherapists to the Resnick Model of Relationship Therapy. Each day combines:

·      brief lectures,

·      live demonstrations,

·      small-group experiential exercises,

·      structured role plays,

·      and guided clinical consultation to integrate theory with practice.

Participants will explore Gestalt principles of: awareness, dialogue, embodiment, differentiation, authentic contact, and withdrawal while developing practical interventions for working with couples and intimate relationships.

Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of the therapist's use of self, increased confidence in facilitating relational dialogue, and clinical experience practicing the Resnick model.

Live Work Demonstrations – Invitation for Couples

An important part of the workshop will be live demonstrations of Daniel’s work with a couple.

Daniel plans to conduct one live demonstration on each day of the workshop, providing the opportunity to observe such sessions. He may work with the same couple each day or with a different couple on each occasion.

We invite people who are in a real, pre-existing relationship to take part in the demonstrations. This may be an intimate partnership, friendship, or professional relationship. The relationship should not be formed solely for the purpose of participating in the workshop. The couple may consist of people attending the entire workshop, or they may be invited to attend

only for the duration of the demonstration. It is also possible to nominate a couple from outside the workshop group. In the case of people who are currently, or have previously been, in a therapeutic relationship with one of the workshop participants, each application will be discussed individually with the organizers and the trainer, with particular attention given to safety, confidentiality, therapeutic boundaries, and ethical considerations.

Daniel uses a similar format in his trainings in Seattle, where couples taking part in live

demonstrations are sometimes invited by therapists who currently work with them or have worked

with them in the past.

Participation in a demonstration is entirely voluntary. Before the work begins, the couple will receive full information about the nature of the demonstration, the presence of the workshop group, confidentiality agreements, and their right to decline participation or withdraw their consent.

All workshop participants are required to maintain strict confidentiality regarding any personal information or content that emerges during the demonstrations.
